Finding the Right Words & [Potentially] Labels

There is a specific kind of clarity that comes when the pieces of your life finally start to click into place. For many of us -especially women who have spent years navigating the world feeling just a little bit "other"- the journey toward understanding our place on the Autism spectrum doesn't always start with a formal diagnosis. Sometimes, it starts with a quiet, persistent inkling and a lot of self-discovery. This pattern is a gentle nod to that "pretty sure" feeling. Featuring a fancy cursive "Undiagnosed" surrounded by symbols of a vibrant, busy mind -like a cute pink brain, an infinity sign, a glowing lightbulb, and soaring butterflies- it's designed to be a grounding project for anyone currently exploring their own neurodivergence.

Stitched with a mix of soft blues, pinks, and yellows, this piece feels like a celebration of how our brains work, rather than a puzzle to be solved. I originally designed this to pop against dark fabrics (like the charcoal Aida pictured), but I've included instructions on how to easily swap your threads if you prefer stitching on a lighter background.

Whether you are stitching this for yourself or for someone you love, I hope these stitches provide a bit of comfort and a lot of validation. Handwork takes time, and so does understanding ourselves; let this be a patient companion on that journey.

A Note on the Journey of Self-Discovery

Exploring the possibility of being on the spectrum can feel like a lot to take in, especially if you are "young at heart" but perhaps a little further along in years. Please know that seeking clarity about how your beautiful brain works is a deeply worthwhile thing to do, no matter your age.

Whether you are looking for a formal diagnosis or simply want to understand your own needs and boundaries better, learning more about who you are as a person is always a valid and okay path to take. If you're not sure where to start your journey, the Autistic Self Advocacy Network (ASAN), Reframing Autism and Embrace Autism are wonderful, neuro-affirming resources that offer guidance and support for adults and families alike.
