Stitching Love Twice: A 2nd Anniversary Family Portrait

A beautifully crafted wedding anniversary portrait featuring a husband, wife, daughter, and their little dog, adorned with hand-embroidered pastel florals. A special cross-stitch project completed twice over, made to celebrate love and family.

A custom made cross-stitch (and hand embroidered) 2nd wedding anniversary piece that depicts a husband & wife, their daughter and their dog surrounded by delicate florals.
It came out so good!

2nd Anniversary Stitch People Portrait with Delicate Florals

Way back in the first half of 2021, I took on a special project: creating a 2nd anniversary gift for a lovely family. The finished piece ended up being one of my favourites, featuring a husband and wife in their wedding attire, alongside their adorable daughter and dog (who may not have been part of the wedding but is definitely part of the family!).

This portrait wasn't just a celebration of their love — it also became a lesson in patience when the original piece went missing in the mail! Luckily, my customer was incredibly understanding and gave me the time to recreate the entire piece from scratch.

Capturing the Details Up Close

Before we dive into the story of how this piece came to life (twice!), I wanted to share some close-up shots of the finished design. These photos really highlight the intricate details of the stitching, from the pastel pink florals to the sweet expressions on the characters' faces. The delicate textures of the cast-on stitches and French knots truly shine when you see them up close, giving a glimpse into the care and attention that went into every part of this anniversary portrait.

Aren't these details just beautiful and delicate?

More Details on the Piece Itself

Family Togetherness 👫👧🐶

This cross-stitch portrait beautifully captures a moment in time for this sweet family. The husband, who commissioned the piece, was so excited to gift it to his wife, and he made sure to include their little girl and their beloved dog. The dog might not have been present at the wedding, but it's clear they're an important part of the family now!

Florals in Bloom 🌸💛

I was thrilled to have the opportunity to create delicate hand-embroidered florals around the characters. The pastel pink cast-on stitches and soft yellow French knots came together perfectly, creating a gentle and elegant design. The flowers curved gracefully along the top of the piece, with additional accents in the southwest and southeast corners. I'm so pleased with how the florals turned out; they truly matched the beautiful bouquet that my customer envisioned.

Anniversary Details 🗓️

To make this piece even more special, it includes the words "Happy 2nd Anniversary" alongside both the couple’s wedding date and their 2nd anniversary date. This little touch added an extra layer of meaning to the piece, marking the milestones of their journey together.

If you didn't know; the 2nd anniversary gift type is "cotton" which is perfect for the stitch people portraits I create.

A Project Done Twice

One of the most memorable aspects of this piece was that I actually stitched it twice! After completing the first version, it was unfortunately lost in transit by USPS. Despite the disappointment, my customer was very patient and supportive, allowing me to recreate the entire portrait. All the photos you're seeing here are from the second piece I stitched—truly a labour of love!

Extra Deets

  • The piece is finished on a sticky mount board in a 5x7" size, making it ready to frame. I wish I could see how it looks in the frame that my customer ultimately chose!
  • I really loved working on the florals in this piece and would love to create more anniversary portraits using a similar style. The pastel colours are so sweet and fit perfectly with the overall vibe of a 2nd wedding anniversary.

In Closing

Despite the hiccup of having to stitch the piece twice, this cross-stitch family portrait turned out beautifully. I love how the delicate florals brought a sense of elegance and charm to the piece, and I hope to use this design style in future projects.
