Commemorating "Stitch People Day" with a New 'I Am Stitch People' Portrait
This little piece was stitched to celebrate Stitch People Day, which took place on September 28, 2024! Every year, this day marks the anniversary of the original release of the DIY Stitch People book in 2014—making this the 10-year milestone. Congratulations to Lizzy and Spencer for creating such a wonderful resource that stitchers like myself are still loving and using a decade later. 🎉
In honour of the celebration, I made a portrait of myself in true Stitch People style. It’s a little version of me, holding a tiny embroidery hoop with a hint of cross-stitch inside, plus a needle and thread in hand. The floral borders above and below add a touch of colour and elegance, created with a bit of blackwork that gives the design that unique look.
I'm also thrilled to share that I was one of the winners of their Stitch People Day competition! As part of my prize, I received one of their new physical books, which is such a lovely addition to my stitching library.
Reflecting on my Stitch People journey, I can’t believe it’s been almost ten years since I picked up my first copy of the DIY Stitch People (then Volume 1) ebook back in April 2015. I remember stitching some of my very first portraits as gifts for both Father's Day and Christmas that year. I took a bit of a break but came back to it in late 2017 before then launching Two Little Kits, and I’ve loved creating these little stitched portraits ever since. Stitch People has been a part of my life and my creative outlet, letting me capture special moments and people in stitches.
If you want to see the first 'I Am Stitch People' portrait I created back in 2021, you can check it out here. It’s fun to look back and see how my style has changed & improved while staying true to the Stitch People charm.
Happy Stitch People Day to everyone who loves this wonderful craft as much as I do!
