Design Reveal + Honest Thoughts on My FlossTube Kit Launch
A peek behind the curtain, a bit of reflection, and a question for you.
Back in May, I hit a big milestone: my 100th FlossTube episode! Cue the confetti, happy tears, and general stitchy excitement. 🥳 It felt like a moment worth celebrating in a proper Two Little Kits way — so I designed a mystery cross-stitch kit especially for the occasion.
The FlossTube Celebration Mystery Kit was a limited-time surprise offering, designed to mark the journey I’ve been on with FlossTube and share the joy with you, my lovely community.
Today, I thought I’d finally reveal the full design, share a little behind-the-scenes, and chat a bit about how the idea came about (and how it went!).
The Mystery Revealed
If you missed out or were just curious what the final design turned out to be — here it is in all its stitchy glory:

I wanted something bright, fun, and celebratory, with a little nod to my brand. The design is simply a party fox - because it had to be a fox, of course! Honestly? It was so fun to design.

Why a Mystery Kit?
I’ve never released a mystery kit before this one, but the idea came to me when I was reflecting on how my FlossTube has played a big part of my life over the past 4 years. I wanted to do more than just say “thank you” to everyone who has watched (and maybe even subscribed). I wanted to create something tangible that others could stitch and feel part of the 100th episode moment too.
Keeping the design a secret added a little fun -a sprinkle of anticipation- and gave it a feeling of “if you know, you know”. I loved knowing people received their kits and find out what the final piece would look like as they stitched.
A Little Quiet on the Sales Front
Now here’s the honest bit: it didn’t sell as well as I’d hoped.
And I don’t say that for sympathy — more as a curious musing aloud. I’ve been wondering:
- Was it the mystery element that made people hesitate?
- Was the timing just off? Not enough lead-up or time to purchase?
- Or was it simply not something people wanted?
Don’t get me wrong — those of you who did get it are so lovely, and your support truly made the whole thing worthwhile. 🧡 But it’s had me thinking…

Would you be more likely to purchase a kit if you knew the design in advance? Did you know I have a full cross-stitch kit available right now of one of my designs?
Should I Do More of These?
Since the initial excitement (and then the quiet), I’ve found myself going back and forth on whether this should be a one-time thing or the beginning of something new. What if I released a small surprise kit every month? Or offered a subscription box that includes a tiny exclusive pattern, some goodies, and a seasonal or themed design?
Would that be fun? Too much? A great excuse to always have something new to stitch?

Your Thoughts?

If you picked up the kit — what did you think of it? If you didn’t, what held you back?
I’d love to hear your honest thoughts. Even if it’s a simple “yes, I’d stitch that” or “nah, mystery kits aren’t for me”, it really helps me plan future offerings (and fuels my creativity!).
Thank you, as always, for being part of this adventure with me. Whether you watch every FlossTube episode or just drop by from time to time, I’m so grateful you’re here.
Here’s to more stitching, more community, and maybe a few more mystery kits…? 😉

Anna, Thank you so much for your honest feedback. I truly appreciate you taking the time to share your full experience. I’m really sorry the kit wasn’t as enjoyable to stitch as it should’ve been. Your points about floss length, fabric choice, and strand count are super helpful, and I’ll definitely be taking them on board for future kits.
That said, I’m so glad the finished piece found a loving home — and I adore that the little girl sees a Shiba Inu in it! 🧡
This kit was a big learning experience for me, and I hope it won’t put you off future designs. Your trust means the world, and I’m grateful for the chance to do better.
I bought the celebration mystery kit.
The celebration mystery kit was not enjoyable to stitch. The floss provided was cut to short lengths which means too frequent starts and stops. I followed the instructions to use 3 strands but this made it hard to push the needle through the aida provided. The floss seemed somewhat ‘frayed’ perhaps traumatised by pulling through the fabric. The final effect was nice, sort of puffy and full. I usually stitch with 2 strands on 14 or 16 count aida. The fabric provided seemed too dark and does not show off the floss colours as well as a lighter beige perhaps. The picture shows the completed piece stitched on a lighter coloured fabric than what was provided in the kit.
I stitched a name below the pattern, put the completed piece in a 3 inch hoop and gave it to a little girl to hang on her room door. She loves it thinking it is a Shiba Inu dog, her favourite breed! :)
Mystery kits are often a hit or miss. If designer has a consistent style, there is a good chance the kit follows that same style. But generally I prefer to know what I am getting in advance. It is painful to waste money, to not stitch the pattern after paying for a kit. It is also painful to stitch a pattern that does not sit well with me.
