Wedding Stitch People Portrait with Furry Friends
Way back at the start of 2023 I started the year off with my first finished stitchy-project; a gorgeous wedding portrait that was to be given as a wedding gift to the lucky bride and groom (and their dogs and cat!). This portrait was ordered at the end of 2022 after my sea of Holiday Ornaments and was a welcome difference from those!
More details on the piece itself
Pets 🐶🐱🐶
Because the wedding would omit the couple's furry friends on the actual day, my customer paid for the inclusion of their three pets; two dogs and a cat. I was totally happy to add these characters to the piece! Although pets are tricky to stitch (they're so much smaller than people!) I always love including them into a portrait.
Florals 💐
I was given full creative flexibility on the florals of this piece with the only restriction being that in the wedding itself, they would only have white flowers, so I was to please match that. No problem! This small design constraint was actually fun to figure out how to make work and I think I ended up with a beautiful finished result.
Lettering ✒️
I love using either of my "Daphne" or "Alison" fonts for wedding pieces because they're so fancy-looking, and this piece wasn't any different from others - I had to!
This piece uses "Daphne" for the wording "the Zeisers". And then to emphasize their wedding date -and to fill out the space a bit nicer- I decided to pair it with my ever-loved "Celeste" font, using the "r" from my supported font add-on. Using two separate greys, the lettering stands on it's own and doesn't overpower the piece at all. Super pleased!
Extra Deets
At the start of 2023, I started including "Certificate of Authenticity" with all of my portraits. I hadn't received my professionally printed certificates before this portrait needed to be sent out so my home printer came to the rescue, but I'm feeling so special being able to hand these out alongside my hard work.
I also wanted to add in a work-in-progress shot of the piece for anyone curious. You can see the following things:
- I do all the cross-stitching first
- I leave hair to last with the characters
- My sketch of the proposed florals
- In this case; I started with flowers before greenery
In closing
This piece didn't come with the frame that you see here, so I do wonder how the finished piece looked for the bride and groom! I can only imagine the final frame would've been lovely.
My customer loved the finished piece and I can only assume the gift receipent also adored the piece, since I've never heard any complaints - lol!
I honestly can't say what my favourite part of this portrait is. Between the delicate florals, down to the adorable kitty whiskers & tail; there's a lot to love. I would love to know what your favourite part of this piece is though, so leave a comment below!
